UKCHPA welcomes ‘timely’ guide to CHP in buildings

The UK Combined Heat and Power Association has welcomed the launch of a new guide aimed at providing guidance to the building industry on how CHP units work, and where they are best suited.

The new CIBSE guide to CHP in Buildings was launched in London in early March and deputy director Ian Manders said the guide was being introduced at a significant moment.

“The guide is very timely because CHP is doing well at present. It is often a planning condition in new build and many large city councils are either examining CHP with district heating or are already engaged in initiating a scheme”.

Mr Manders did add that more was needed in terms of a process of assuring quality. He also warned that there was currently a dearth of technical courses and qualifications specialising in CHP in the UK.
