UK: 40% district heating by 2050 confirms Energy Minister

Energy Minister Greg Barker MP turned up the heat on the UK’s ambitions for district heating as he outlined a target of 40% by 2050 at the CHPA’s annual President’s Reception.

Speaking to the attendees, Greg Barker MP highlighted the central role of heating in meeting carbon targets and the UK’s long term economic plan.

Affordability and energy security are key issues for both domestic and commercial customers, he said, and this is why DECC have brought forward key drivers such as the 2050 road maps for heat, the gas CHP policy, apprenticeships for the renewable heat industry and a commitment to district heating. These drivers offer a “game changing opportunity” for industry.

The Reception, which was help on the House of Lords’ terrace was attended by MPs, Lords, Ladies and CHPA members. Lord Risby, the CHPA’s President, said a few words, as did the CHPA’s Chairman, Ian Calvert.
