– Dutch municipality inspired by Danish approach
Dutch municipalities have made significant strides in their commitment to developing district heating as a sustainable alternative to natural gas.
While most cities are yet to adopt District Heating (DH), the municipalities are actively working to enhance their competencies and foster trust and commitment from stakeholders.
International collaboration spurs district heating innovation in Súdwest-Fryslân
The Dutch-Danish CONFIDENCE project supports the work in the frontrunner municipality of Súdwest-Fryslân with sparring from Denmark. The municipality is establishing its own DH company and developing pilot projects for district heating.
The sparring and knowledge-sharing take place online and through two deep-dive workshops in the Netherlands. The first deep-dive workshop is in the city of Bolsward, with Dutch participation from the municipalities, the province, and the national level. From Denmark, experts in municipal heat planning and district heating bring challenging questions and hands-on experiences.
The first deep-dive workshop in Bolsward features Dutch municipal, provincial, and national participation, with Danish experts providing insights and practical experiences in heat planning and district heating.
Key stakeholders support the district heating development in Fryslân
In a packed program, we are working to identify the most crucial actions and results that will accelerate and improve the development of DH companies and systems. The showcase in Fryslân, demonstrating how to organize and finance districts for better and more cost-effective DH business cases, will support other municipalities in the Netherlands.
The CONFIDENCE project is privileged to have the continuous support and involvement of key stakeholders, including the Dutch Association of Municipalities (VNG), BNG, other Dutch frontrunner cities, the Danish Embassy in the Netherlands, the Danish Energy Agency, and DBDH. Their contributions are invaluable and greatly appreciated.
