The project addresses the critical need for modernisation of Poland’s district heating (DH) systems, which remain heavily reliant on coal and lack energy efficiency. The initiative aims to support Polish district heating utilities in creating strategic development plans that outline their transition to sustainable, efficient, and low-carbon heating systems.
Deliverables
- A series of masterclass workshops (both online and in-person) focusing on developing and improving strategic development plans for the Polish district heating utilities.
- Two key outputs: a comprehensive strategic development plan for PEC Ostroda and an advanced decarbonisation roadmap for the frontrunner city of Gliwice.
- Collaboration with Polish and Danish technical experts to explore innovative solutions and accelerate the planning process.
Participants
The project is a collaborative effort involving:
- Danish and Polish Utilities and Consultants: VEKS, Artelia A/S
- Associations and Authorities: Polish DH Association (IGCP) and the Royal Danish Embassy in Warsaw.
- Local Governments: The municipalities of Gliwice and Ostroda.
- Project Facilitators: Danish Board of District Heating (DBDH), providing project coordination and dissemination.
Funding
The project is financed by the ”Tilskudspulje til Fremme af Energieksportindsatsen Programme” of the Danish Energy Agency. It leverages Danish expertise and fosters partnerships to support Poland’s green transition.
