Momentous occasion for the district heating sector in Ireland

by Elaine

‘Call to Action’ by Eamon Ryan, Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications and joint Government leader.

Minister Ryan was asked to set out his top three policy priorities for Ireland and much to the delight of everyone receiving this I’m sure, one of these included the roll out of district heating in Ireland. Even better he pointed to a specific ambition to convert 1% of the heat demand in buildings to district heating each year going forward and to support this step change in ambition, his Department will be setting up a national district heating company later this year.

To put this in context, 1% per year translates to approximately 20,000 households converting to district heating each year and will put us on track to reach 10% DH by 2030, so make no mistake, the ambition is now for district heating to become a core part of the heating mix in Ireland.

We look forward to hearing more on this development.
