Lord mayor of Copenhagen elected to C40 steering committee

The Lord Mayor of Copenhagen, Frank Jensen, joins the Steering Committee of the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group – the network of the world’s megacities taking action to reduce CO2 emissions and climate risks.

The Lord Mayor of Copenhagen, Frank Jensen, has been elected to the Steering Committee of C40 – a network of 67 of the world’s biggest and most innovative cities cooperating on climate change action. Lord Mayor Jensen will represent the 19 C40 Innovator cities, which have shown clear leadership in environmental and climate change work.

“C40 is an important organisation that plays a great role in making the world’s cities greener and more sustainable. It is a big recognition of Copenhagen’s efforts to minimise CO2 emissions and develop sustainable urban solutions that we are now represented in the C40 Steering Committee. I look forward to sharing our experiences of coupling sustainability with economic growth and job creation,” says Lord Mayor Frank Jensen.

“I am delighted to welcome Lord Mayor Frank Jensen to the C40 Steering Committee,” said C40 Chair, Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes. “Recognised as one of the world’s greenest cities, Copenhagen brings a wealth of knowledge about sustainability and a strength of commitment to climate action that will help to advance C40’s mission.”

The C40 Steering Committee has representation from each of C40’s seven regions to provide strategic oversight and ensure the organization’s mission and mandate are directly driven by, and responsive to, the needs of C40 cities. Led by Mayor Paes, the Steering Committee is comprised of mayoral-level representation from: Berlin, Buenos Aires, Hong Kong, Houston, Jakarta, Johannesburg, London, Rio, and Seoul.

“Copenhagen is very keen to take its involvement in C40 to the next level and lead the way with a focus on sharing policies, method development and creating scalable solutions,” said the Lord Mayor of Copenhagen. The City is already leading the C40 Green Growth Network, which seeks to develop new ways of creating sustainable urban solutions combined with economic growth, innovation and job creation.

The C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group is a network of large cities from around the world committed to implementing meaningful and sustainable climate-related actions locally that will help address climate change globally.

C40 was established in 2005 and expanded via a partnership in 2006 with President William J. Clinton’s Climate Initiative. The current Chair/chairman of the C40 is Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes the 108th Mayor of New York City Michael R. Bloomberg serves as President of the Board.
