Michael T. Simmelsgaard is replacing Thomas Rand, who has decided to retire after ten successful years as Managing Director for Energy and 41 years in the company. Thomas Rand will continue in the company in a role as senior advisor for the new Managing Director and the Ramboll Group.

Michael T. Simmelsgaard comes from a position as head of Offshore Wind in Vattenfall. In addition, he has gained broad industry experience in utilities and energy systems from senior leadership roles in Ørsted, Siemens, and Danfoss.

Offshore wind is the fastest-growing energy sector globally, and today Ramboll is a world leader in the design of foundations for offshore wind turbines representing a market share of approx. 60 % of all offshore foundations in the world. Furthermore, Ramboll has a leading position in the design of offshore substations and is working worldwide for leading offshore wind developers and contractors.

The key task for Michael T. Simmelsgaard will be to take Ramboll’s global Energy division to the next level based on the company’s unique holistic offering concerning integrated energy systems.

” Our ambition is to be globally recognized as the sustainable society consultant successfully guiding our clients through the green transition. Michael T. Simmelsgaard has a deep strategic insight into the energy sector’s change these years, and he knows our clients’ needs from first-hand experience. This makes him the right person to lead the next step on our journey as a leading player in the energy industry,” says COO of the Ramboll Group, Søren Holm Johansen.

Michael T. Simmelsgaard looks forward to taking on the challenge: “I find it truly inspiring to work for a company with such a clear mission and strong values as Ramboll. To take part in the energy sector transformation is a key motivating factor for me, and Ramboll is one of the global leaders in energy consulting. It will be a privilege for me to lead the many thought leaders in the company, and this way impacts the global energy market,” says Michael T. Simmelsgaard.
