In the period 2015-2020, the World Bank will invest in a portfolio of major projects to support the government’s reform of a sustainable economy. USD 383 million are allocated to a separate project “district heating energy efficiency (DHEE), which includes 10 major cities in Ukraine.
In February, the Danish Embassy and DBDH in cooperation with the WB Central Group of Implementation held a seminar in Kyiv during which the 10 major cities presented their project plans covered by this project. The choice of the cities we will visit in April: Kamyanetsk-Podilsky and Ternopil, is based on the subsequent dialogue with the cities and the Central Group of Project Implementation. During the event, we will meet the district heating companies and their individual project teams, city administration, contractors and other relevant stakeholders, and during seminars, meetings and networking activities present the Danish technologies and know-how and discuss the possibilities for cooperation. Meetings in Kyiv will also be part of the program.
The Danish Energy Agency will be part of the event represented by Mr. Anders Hasselager, Senior Policy Advisor.

Earlier this week, the Danish Embassy of Ukraine and DBDH together conducted a DH Sector Visit to Ukraine. The visit took take place in the period 20th to 23rd April and focused on cities in the western part of Ukraine: Kamyanetsk-Podilsky & Ternopil.
The tour went to two cities in western Ukraine; Kamyanetsk-Podilsky and Ternopil. There were at both locations – after the mayor’s welcome – visit to the city utility company and their project teams busy with a long range of modernization projects. Focus in Kamyanetsk-Podilsky was on biomass boilers and upgrade of district heating network. While the visit in Ternopil also focused water supply and sewage.
The focus of the event was to meet relevant partners and stakeholders in the cities comprised by the World Bank Project + District Heating Energy Efficiency (DHEE). It proved a unique opportunity to discuss possibilities for cooperation between Danish companies and the relevant parties and decision makers on the World Bank projects, district heating companies and their project teams, city administration, contractors and other relevant stakeholders. The Danish participating companies met with the parties, and discussed and presented their solutions during seminars, meetings and networking activities.
The major expected outcome of the DH Sector Visit is the district heating knowledge and technology transfer from Denmark to Ukraine, contributing to the Danish export increase in the district heating market and at the same time developing the Ukrainian market for district heating into more innovative and energy efficient one.
The city Ternopil is seriously considered to be included in the list of the World Bank project, and Ternopil has good experience in cooperation with international financial institutions.
