German DH Webinar Series

14. November 2022 - 18. November 2022

The German DH Webinar Series will be held with the MVV Group that operates several district heating networks across Germany and they are also shareholders in several municipal utilities.

In the German DH Webinar Series, we will have webinars with the following district heating companies:

  • MVV Mannheim; 14 November 13.00 – 16.00
  • Stadtwerke Kiel; 15 November 9.00 – 12.00
  • Energieversorgung Offenbach AG; 18 November 9.00 – 12.00

MVV Energie AG: a publicly listed, municipal energy supplier

Our company can look back on a long history as a local and regional supplier to the City of Mannheim and the entire Rhine/Neckar metropolitan region. The company has come a very long way from its roots – the takeover of the municipal gas works in 1873 – to its current position as a modern, listed energy company with activities across Germany. Today, the company has around 2,000 employees in the city and surrounding region. We are a nationwide group of companies with international operations and a current total of more than 6,200 employees. Together, these companies generated annual sales of around Euro 3,5 billion in the 2020 financial year.

District heating as key success story

Our group of companies covers the whole range of modern, sustainable utility services in many regions. We thus supply our customers with energy and water. Efficient energy generation in combined heat and power in conjunction with environmentally friendly district heating is of particular importance to us.

MVV Energie AG is the sole owner of MVV Mannheim, Stadtwerke Kiel and Energieversorgung Offenbach and they are stakeholders in a number of German Stadwerke.

14th November Workshop with MVV Mannheim

Themes/challenges:

  1. General interest
    1. Discussion of the central economic and regulatory premises, show differences between DK and D
    2. Differentiation between passive and active customers for further development of DH products.
    3. Decentralized heat supply and use of waste heat
  1. Procurement of district heating compact house stations

Supply chain problems, optimization of the ordering process, internal/external services, possible use of synergies, etc.

  1. Coordination of internal and external service providers, best practice, software solution (possibly portal?), network and sales cooperation.
  2. Monitoring and control of the DH house station and the DH network, experience with the evaluation of network and equipment parameters, transmission technology, software used, etc.

15th November 09.00 – 12.00 Workshop with STADTWERKE KIEL

Themes/challenges:

  1. General interest
    1. Discussion of the central economic and regulatory premises, show differences between DK and D
    2. Differentiation between passive and active customers for further development of DH products.
    3. Decentralized heat supply and use of waste heat
  2. Intelligent systems for monitoring and optimizing return temperatures
  3. Transformation of local heating networks - What options are there for existing networks with corresponding flow temperatures (e.g. 70/50)?
  4. Practical examples and systems for hydronic balancing in existing buildings

18th November 09.00 – 12.00: Workshop with EVO OFFENBACH

  1. General interest
    1. Discussion of the central economic and regulatory premises, show differences between DK and D
    2. Differentiation between passive and active customers for further development of DH products.
    3. Decentralized heat supply and use of waste heat
  1. Exchange of grid expansion and house connection costs and their possible optimization.
  2. The general lowering of the network temperature and any solutions already available for a secure hot water supply even with flow temperatures well below 75° as well as experience with alternative heat generators in the district heating network such as high-temperature heat pumps.
  3. Experiences with heat meters connected via LoRaWan and the benefits outside of billing
