Date: 10/08/2016

European district heating and cooling project Celsius has reached its goal of recruiting 50 new cities a year ahead of schedule.

The networking and knowledge-sharing programme, part of the EU’s Smart Cities & Communities initiative, began in 2013 and will run until 2017. It is led by the city of Gothenburg with partner cities London, Rotterdam, Cologne and Genoa and aims to help member cities share district heating experience and resources.

This week Celsius announced that Krakow has become the fiftieth city to sign up. Among other recent joinees are Ferrara, Ljubljana, Aberdeen, Leipzig, Lille, Delft and Bonn.

In testimonials, the cities expressed different concerns and objectives regarding district heating, from modernizing their networks to becoming carbon-neutral to switching fuel sources.
