District cooling contract awarded for Doha Metro Rail project

Date: 04/01/2016

Under the terms of a contract announced this week, Qatar Railways Company, which is overseeing the construction of the Doha Metro Rail system, has engaged Qatar Cool to install cooling services at seven stations. The cooling systems will operate throughout the other stations and on the trains, the firm said.

Phase 1 of the Metro Rail project, which is planned to feature 100 stations, is slated for completion in 2019.

Qatar Rail’s CEO, Saad Al Muhannadi, said: ‘We have the pleasure to co-operate with Qatar Cool to provide seven stations on the project with a district cooling system that won’t only withstand the hot weather during summer peak times in Doha, but also contribute to protecting the environment by increasing energy efficiency and reducing environmental emissions, saving electricity, and evidently benefitting from a much more cost-efficient cooling service with an economic interest on the longer term.’

Qatar Cool’s CEO Yasser Salah Al Jaidah said: ‘District cooling’s advantages are increasingly being recognised by governments, developers and end-users alike. It is an honour to say Qatar Cool is playing a fundamental role in Qatar’s sustainable and environmental fortification.’
