DBDH receives high-level delegation from Spain

On 11-12 of April, DBDH received a high-level delegation lead by Juan Carlos Suarez-Quiñones, Minister of the Environment and Infrastructures from the Spanish region of Castilla y Léon.

The delegation was in Denmark to learn about how biomass can be used in conjunction with district heating. Castilla y Léon is located 830 meters above sea level, therefore the region has a great need for heating during the winter. Gas is currently the primary utilized source of heating delivery, but Castilla y Leon has a large amount of tree waste that are not being utilized. For this reason the Minister intends to begin utilizing biomass for district heating, – first and foremost to create local jobs, but also to ensure a greater security of supply, by becoming less dependent of imported gas.

The background for the visit was utilization of biomass and waste resources for district heating, increased energy efficiency and other environmental aspects. On the first day of the visit, the delegation visited Grundoss Biobooster installation in Herlev, Rockwool’s Experience Center and Helsinge Utility. In the afternoon hours, the Minister and his delegation met with the Mayor of Halsnæs Municipality and visited Halsnæs Utility.

On the second and last day of the visit programme, official meetings were held with Morten Kabell, Mayor for Technical  and  Environmental  Affairs  at the City of Copenhagen, Jørgen Abildgaard, Executive Climate Project Director at the City of Copenhagen, and Niels Bukholt, Senior Advisor at the Danish Energy Agency. A site visit and lunch to Amager Ressource Center, followed by sightseeing around Copenhagen finalized this valuable visit from Spain.
