If there is something Danfoss can show in China with a certain pride, it is the district heating project in the industrial city of Anshan. Here they are, together with Cowi, behind a pilot project shows that by utilizing the heat from the city’s steel mill it is possible to save a lot of coal and also cut air pollution considerably.
“It’s something the Chinese can understand. Last year alone, the city saved over 170,000 tons of coal – while having at the same time secured heat for over a quarter of a million residents of the city. You use the energy twice – first to melt the steel – and then to heat the houses”, says Kjeld Stærk, Director, Danfoss China.
So far, Danfoss’ two largest business areas in China have been cooling and engine management – both with a focus on minimal energy consumption. Now it seems the “heating division” is on its way up- especially after China’s announcements at the climate summit in Paris. And therefore the Danfoss director is extremely pleased that the climate and energy minister Lars Chr. Lilleholt (V) has moved so quickly in relation to bringing Danish competencies forward in China.
“There is a huge potential in the sector. Our customers are typically large district heating companies – and here we try to spread our model for the utilization of waste heat to even more of the big Chinese cities which are forced to reduce their consumption of coal”, says Kjeld Stærk.
