Coca-Cola to invest in CHP for UK factory

Europe’s largest soft drinks plant by volume is to run on combined heat and power in a move toward ‘greening’ its production process.

Coca-Cola Enterprises’ bottling factory in Wakefield, Yorkshire, UK will get on-site power from a CHP plant, which will save 1500 tonnes of CO2 per year, the company said.

The power plant is part of a larger investment of £52 million (US$86 million) the company has planned for its UK operations in 2014.

As well as the CHP system, the company will install a new production line to manufacture its plastic bottles in larger sizes.

Simon Baldry, managing director of Coca Cola Enterprises, said, ‘Our latest funding pledge shows once again our desire to invest significantly in the most innovative and efficient technologies available. It forms an important part of our long-term strategy to continue to grow our business sustainably and make a positive contribution to the British economy.’
