Celsius Summit – Thermal energy systems of the future – hot trends and cool solutions for cities

by Kathrine

Even though there are clear ambitions for cities to become carbon neutral as soon as possible, the path to decarbonisation is not a clear and straight road. As energy systems evolve they become increasingly interconnected, making them more robust but also more complex. One innovative example is the digital marketplace created through the Fossil-free Energy District (FED) project where actors can buy and sell heating, cooling and electricity!

Following the Celsius Summit tradition, this free two-day conference will bring together politicians, industry representatives and research institutions from across Europe to connect and exchange ideas on how urban thermal energy systems are developing and how these integrated heating and cooling solutions of the future will allow smart cities to satisfy the energy needs of its citizens and businesses in a sustainable way.

The first day will set the stage and inspire participants with the results from the Fossil-free Energy Districts (FED) project followed panel debates with representatives from Celsius member cities. The panel debates will address the topics of sustainable cooling and sector coupling between thermal and electrical systems. This will take place at the Bip (2-4 Rue Royale).

The second day will provide city representatives the opportunity to participate in hands-on workshops lead by top experts in the field. This will take place at the EIT House (Rue Guimard 7), and said workshops will centre around the following topics:

– Business models and risk analysis for infrastructure development
– Sustainable cooling solutions
– Facilitating the replication of demonstrators
– Decarbonisation pathways for cities

While new sources of energy are gradually changing the landscape, we are still very dependant on fossil fuels for our thermal needs. Join us for one or both days to get ideas on how you can make a difference in your city!

If you are a city representative or city owned utility company representative and would like to share your perspective on sustainable cooling systems or system integration please contact emilia.pisani@johannebergsciencepark.com.

This event is free of charge.
