SmartReFlex – A new EU project to promote district heating from renewables

Date: 7 May 2014

14 organizations from 5 EU countries had their first meeting on 14-15 April in Rome to kick-off the new project ‘SmartReFlex’, supported by the Intelligent Energy Europe Programme.

Six regional authorities from Germany, Ireland, Italy and Spain, with the help of consultancy and research partners and of an expert coaching by Denmark, will implement legislative and organizational solutions for fostering the use of high shares of renewable energy sources in both new and existing district heating grids.

The SmartReFlex group also includes district heating utilities, which will bring their needs and their technical expertise.

The project, which ends in February 2017, also includes a very ambitious capacity building activity with specific workshops for different stakeholders at regional and national level.
